Kendrick Lamar performed his new single “i” for the very first time during his set at We Day in Toronto on Thursday. Held at the Air Canada Centre, the annual event strives to educate youth (in this case, some 20,000 attendees) regarding issues of social justice. Given the song’s feel-good message about self-love and empowerment, K. Dot couldn’t have picked a more appropriate arena for the uplifting anthem’s live debut. On a purely musical side note, the use of live instrumentation provides “i” with an extra pop of soulful goodness.

It’s been an especially busy week for the Compton MC, who also performed at Prince’s record release party earlier this week. Plus, he appears in Flying Lotus’ new video for “Never Catch Me”.
