Update: According to Jonny Greenwood, he rewrote the song and recruited Supergrass to play it. “It’s good, but it’s not very [Radiohead]!” he explained.
Just a week after Thom Yorke released his new solo album, Radiohead fans are treated to another major surprise. According to Slate, Paul Thomas Anderson’s new film, Inherent Vice, features an unreleased Radiohead song called “Spooks”.
“Spooks” appears to date back to 2006, as an instrumental version of the track was performed in a concert in Copenhagen, Denmark. Watch fan-shot footage from that performance below.
The inclusion of “Spooks” is certainly surprising, but can easily be explained: Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood composed the score for Inherent Vice. Meanwhile, Joanna Newsom has an acting role in the film and also serves as its narrator.
Inherent Vice hits theaters on December 12th.Below, watch the film’s trailer.
