Prince will make history with unique performance on Saturday Night Live

on October 27, 2014, 1:10pm

As we noted earlier this month, Prince will grace the Saturday Night Live stage this Saturday, November 1st. Not only will the performance mark his first on the show since 2006, but it will also serve as an especially unique moment in terms of SNL’s musical history.

According to a statement (via Rolling Stone), instead of adhering to the sketch show’s usual two-song format for musical guests, Prince will perform one, uninterrupted “eight-minute long jam session.” While it’s unclear what song he will dole out or whether it will be a medley of some kind, it’s safe to say that if anyone could persuade the conventional NBC program to do something so unconventional, it’d be the almighty Purple One.

Prince’s SNL appearance comes in continued support of his new solo album, ART OFFICIAL AGE, as well as the debut album from his band 3rdEyeGirl, PLECTRUMELECTRUM. The episode will be hosted by comedian Chris Rock.
