Rancid share new song “Face Up” — listen

on October 07, 2014, 1:37pm

Last week, Rancid previewed their first album in five years, Honor Is All We Know, with a triple shot of angst-ridden Oy punk: “Collision Course”, the title track, and “Evil’s My Friend” were all featured in a hard-hitting teaser trailer. Today, they share just one new song, entitled “Face Up”, and though it stands alone, it nonetheless speaks volumes.

If you’re looking for a crash course as to where Rancid has been and where the quintet is headed with their eighth studio album, “Face Up” compiles it all into a nice, compact 90 seconds. Like a Frankenstein built of rockabilly guitars and swagger, ferocious punk harmonies, and a bit of pop punk levity, the song feels simultaneously warm and familiar and yet still totally fresh and progressive. It’s like rocking that old Misfits hoodie you found in the closet that somehow still fits your near-30-year-old body.
