Viet Cong share new song “Continental Shelf” — listen

on October 15, 2014, 1:30pm

Featuring members of the now-defunct Canadian art rock band Women, Viet Cong makes dark pop music with a sparse, post-punk backbone. After releasing a tour-only EP earlier this year, the quintet is set to release its self-titled debut on January 20th via Jagjaguwar. Our first taste of the seven-track effort comes via lead single, “Continental Shelf”.

Anchored by spacey guitars, a wall of dense noise, and metallic bass, the song sounds like something out of The Cure’s discography, albeit a little more menacing. Even with it’s darker undertones, it’s still a gripping single made all the more complex with biting lines like, “If we’re lucky we’ll get old and die.” Listen in below.

Viet Cong Tracklist:
01. Newspaper Spoons
02. Pointless Experience
03. March Of Progress
04. Bunker Buster
05. Continental Shelf
06. Silhouettes
07. Death

The band has also announced an extensive world tour, with dates edging into February 2015. Consult their full schedule below.
