Boots, the moniker of Beyoncé producer and former Blonds frontman Jordy Asher, has quickly emerged as one of pop music’s most exciting newcomers. Following the release of his promising debut mixtape, WinterSpringSummerFall, along with the slow-burning single “Mercy”, Asher adds to the hype with a new track called “I Run Roulette”.
Compared to some of his more soulful offerings, “I Run Roulette” is arguably his darkest and most aggressive yet. The song is punctuated by driving bass blasts that seem out of Trent Reznor’s playbook along with booming industrial percussion. However, Boots keeps the song alluringly sensual with his silky croon and lines like “maybe I could be the one the you’d regret.” It’s an ominous track, but it’s endlessly listenable.
