Elvis Costello, Jim James, Marcus Mumford perform as The New Basement Tapes on Jimmy Kimmel Live — watch

on November 20, 2014, 10:15am

Last week, Elvis Costello, Jim James (My Morning Jacket), Marcus Mumford (Mumford & Sons), Taylor Goldsmith (Dawes), and Rhiannon Giddens (Carolina Chocolate Drops) — released Lost on the River: The New Basement Tapes, their T-Bone Burnett-produced album made from previously unused Bob Dylan lyrics. The New Basement Tapes since appeared twice on network TV to promote the record, and last night they made it thrice with a stop at Jimmy Kimmel Live.

The folk supergroup delivered two songs: James first took lead on “Nothing To It” and delivered a scorching guitar solo to boot. Later, Giddens stepped forward to sing “Duncan and Jimmy”. Watch both performances below.

“Nothing To It”:

“Duncan & Jimmy”:

Costello sang when they did the title track on Fallon and Mumford was lead for “Kansas City” on Ellen; we can only assume Goldsmith will take the mic next time. A making-of documentary about the album called Lost Songs: The Basement Tapes Continued will air November 21st at 9pm ET on Showtime. After that, we can only hope for a tour (or a headlining spot at Newport Folk Fest, perhaps?).
