Following the release of Interpol’s fifth studio album, El Pintor, guitarist Daniel Kessler announced a new side project with sound designer Joseph Fraioli called Big Noble. Together, the duo makes evocatively experimental and instrumental compositions.
On February 3rd, however, they’ll release their first full-length album, First Light, via Affiliates Sound. Clocking in at under three minutes, lead single “Peg” packs in loads of emotional resonance despite its short runtime. There are post-rock guitars, ambient strings, and gently repeating chords that build up to a satisfying crescendo. In many ways, the song feels like it would make a fantastic film score, and its beautiful accompanying visual, directed by Travis Robb, makes it easy to imagine. Watch it below.
Currently, Kessler and Fraioli are conducting a sound installation at New York City’s Sonos Studios consisting of an “interactive conceptual map of New York” called “Sounds of NYC”.
