Interpol share new song “What Is What” — listen

on November 29, 2014, 12:37pm

Interpol has shared an outtake from the sessions for its latest album, El Pintor. “What Is What” is available for free download via the band’s new website. Fans must type in “Everything Is Wrong” in order to gain access to the MP3.

The song’s release coincides with the unveiling of a new mural created by Shepherd Fairey. Located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, the mural is inspired by the El Pintor single “Everything Is Wrong”. It incudes the anagrams “The Very Growing Sin” and “Every Wrong Insight” and draws upon the song’s themes of failed relationships and regret.

Fairey said of the mural:

The lyrics to ‘Everything Is Wrong’ are open to interpretation, but whether the song is about hard living, relationship failures, wear and tear on the environment, or an empire mentality, regret for poor decisions seems to be the theme. I decided to explore the idea of being complicit in a personal relationship or a relationship with a system that one realizes is unhealthy.
