Nicki Minaj premieres new single “Bed of Lies” — listen

on November 16, 2014, 6:25pm

Nicki Minaj isn’t letting the controversy surrounding her latest single slow the momentum towards the release of her next album, The Pinkprint. At last week’s MTV European Music Awards, Minaj debuted a new collaboration with Skylar Grey called “Bed of Lies”. Now, the studio version has appeared online and you can listen below.

Over simple piano chord progressions, Grey asks on the song’s echoy hook, “Do you ever think of me when you lie/ Lie down in your bed, your bed of lies?” She’s speaking for Minaj, whose verses recount a lover’s betrayal. “You could never make eye contact/ Everything you got was based off of my contacts,” go the lyrics. And though this ex may have messed with Minaj’s emotions, he’s done nothing to her confidence: “You a fraud/ But I’mma remain icon-stat.”

Grey told Billboard she began writing the song about a year ago before Minaj picked it up. “Luckily, she liked the demo of it enough to keep me on the song,” she said. “When I heard that she was taking the song I was surprised because it’s not a typical kind of song for her … She seemed to take it to a very personal place.” Listen to the track below.

Due December 15th, The Pinkprint also features “Anaconda” and “Pills N Potions”.
