New Jersey emo rock outfit Prawn have some unfinished business to attend to. Earlier this year, the band released its sophomore LP, Kingfisher. The album was originally supposed to be a 12-track effort, but due to the size limitations of a 12-inch vinyl, the band was forced to cut two songs from the final tracklist. Those two songs will instead be released on a new EP entitled Settled, which will be released for Record Store Day’s Black Friday event on November 28th. Additionally, the EP will be packaged in a deluxe edition of Kingfisher, out November 25th via Topshelf Records.
The first of these lost songs, “Built For”, straddles the line between late ’90s emo and post rock. Opening with ethereal, reverb-drenched guitars, the track slowly escalates into a melancholic ballad, as frontman Tony Clark sings subtly over the lush guitars, reveling in the brooding tones. It’s a gorgeous blend of atmosphere and nuance without losing the band’s gruff edge.
