Update: Ride has officially announced a reunion tour for 2015.
It appears UK shoegaze outfit Ride is on the brink of a reunion. This morning, the band’s one-time label, Creation Records, posted a photograph of a Ride poster along with caption, “Ride Reunion 2015 photo from Primavera this morning,” and a #RideReunion hashtag. While the image has since been re-uploaded with one sans the caption and hashtag, the cat is already out of the bag: Ride appear set to reunite for the first time in over a decade for an appearance at this year’s Primavera Sound Music Festival in Barcelona, Spain.
Following its initial eight-year run between 1988 and 1996, Ride briefly reunited in 2001 for a documentary and archival box set. Band members Andy Bell, Laurence Colbert, and Mark Gardner have since joined each other on-stage during various solo performances. However, Bell has expressed disinterest in a full-fledged reunion up until now.
Incidentally, it seems Liam Gallagher may be partially responsible for Ride’s impending reunion, as he recently announced the end of his post-Oasis band Beady Eye, of which Bell was a member.
Primavera Sound is set to take place May 28th – 30th, 2015. Thus far, The Strokes are the only officially announced artist.
