Sleigh Bells have been on the road for the better part of 2014, which is probably why we haven’t heard much in the way of new music following last year’s Bitter Rivals. That all changes this week, however, as the noise pop duo has released “That Did It”, a ferocious, swaggering joint featuring one of Chicago’s most promising MCs, Tink.
The track comes after both acts shared the stage at South by Southwest earlier this year. “I immediately thought she [Tink] was incredibly badass,” Sleigh Bells’ Alexis Krauss told Rolling Stone. “She’s like a firecracker — she has an incredible stage presence and charisma.” As guitarist/producer Derek Miller explains, “That Did It” had been “sitting on my hard drive” since early 2013, adding, “There was a spark there, but it was so sugary. It put me to sleep.”
The missing link? The dynamic Chi-Town rapper, whose opening verse basically helped gel the entire piece. “Once Alexis and Tink started playing off of each other, their chemistry redeemed the whole thing for me,” Miller explained. “Suddenly I fell back in love with the track.”
