Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig joins Major Lazer for “Vegan Vampire” — listen

on November 05, 2014, 8:34pm

In Diplo’s upcoming FXX cartoon show based on his super-powered Rasta Major Lazer persona, Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig plays a character known as a vegan vampire. Yeah, every word in that sentence is a real thing.

Last week, FXX previewed the cartoon during their Animation Domination High-Def block. The advanced look included a new song titled “Vegan Vampire” and an introduction to Koenig’s character. Apparently, the dietarily restricted creature of the night is striking up a relationship with a regular ol’ hot-blooded human.

“Can I come inside?” asks Koenig’s character.

“Yeah,” responds his love interest Penny. “You can come wherever you want.”

The show also includes the villainous vampire vampires (Yes, vampires who feed on vampires. Look, if they can be vegans, they can be cannibals), whom Koenig’s character must seek and destroy for killing his band of vegan vampires. How do you kill a vampire vampire? With lasers, of course. It all sounds completely batshit insane, which is exactly what you’d expect from a Major Lazer show. And the dirty rock-stomp of the track itself is actually really solid — if you can hear it over the screaming cartoon characters in the background. Take a listen below (via Stereogum).

The intro to the show has also been made available, and you can watch it below. FXX is set to debut the cartoon in 2015 around the same time as Major Lazer’s follow-up to 2013’s Free The Universe drops. Personally, I’m setting the DVR in advance.

And because why not, here’s Koenig recording the make out sounds you hear in the clip.
