Last month, Adult Swim went viral with “Too Many Cooks”, a comedic short that lampooned the opening credits of popular late ’80s/early ’90s sitcoms. Mostly a one-note joke, the clip nonetheless took off, heralding a bevy of spoofs as the song methodically dug its way into everyone’s inner brain. Seriously, I was this close to making it one of my personal entries for this year’s list of the 50 best songs. Today, Adult Swim has unveiled its follow-up, “Unedited Footage of a Bear”.
Though it lacks an appearance from Smarf, the 10-minute short film does feature brand new music from Dan Deacon. The Baltimore native’s abrasive, minimalist score serves as the perfect backdrop for this “comedic” flick, which slowly devolves from an idyllic antihistamine commercial into a rather sordid and violent tale. There’s harrowing crime scenes (complete with a cameo from Deacon and Matmos member M.C. Schmidt), fist fights, doppelgängers, and a bit of metaphysics. But, hey, at least the bear’s totally cute! Watch it below.
