True to their name, the members of Los Angeles indie pop act Busy Living have been known to keep especially jam-packed schedules. Singer-guitarist Mike Moonves previously fronted the indie band Chief; bassist Tim Hutton regularly performs with The Temptations; and keyboardist Matt Leddy has opened for the likes of Andrew WK and TV on the Radio. Despite these various projects, the band found time to record its debut EP, It’s War Out There, in 2012. Now, the trio has reconvened and enlisted producer/Spoon drummer Jim Eno to record a new series of singles.
The latest release from those sessions, “Lie Better”, is a jaunty romp not unlike something from Spoon’s own catalog. Opening with Hutton’s soulful bass line, the track continually builds upon itself with every additional layer, spinning in lush guitars and random noise, as Moonves cries foul over an old lover. Even with such a bitter topic in play, the serene melodies give the song a real sense of hopefulness. Listen in below.
