Legendary comedian Chris Rock has several monumental notches on his belt, including five HBO specials, three Emmys, two Grammys, and a headlining slot at Bonnaroo. In a recent interview with Howard Stern, Rock revealed that he was also offered the chance to be the first comedian to headline a Super Bowl Halftime Show, but turned it down because “the Super Bowl is no place to do comedy.”
Rock explained that he was asked to perform a few minutes of standup during the 2004 Super Bowl Halftime Show, which famously featured Janet Jackson and her nipple performing alongside Justin Timberlake.
“It is tempting just to be able to say it,” Rock admitted, “just to get the stills. Just to have the pictures would have been amazing.” However, “There’s nothing for me to do on that show. I coulda sucked.”
