David Letterman announces date of his final Late Show episode

on December 10, 2014, 1:50pm

David Letterman will sign off the air as host of CBS’s Late Show on Wednesday, May 20th, the network has confirmed to Deadline.

Serving as host of the Late Show since 1993, Letterman announced his retirement in April. He’ll be replaced by The Colbert Report host Stephen Colbert. A date for Colbert’s first episode has yet to be announced.

The news of Letterman’s final episode comes as Craig Ferguson gears up for his swan song as host of CBS’s Late Late Show. Ferguson will end his decade-long reign on December 19th and will be replaced by comedian James Corden in February 2015.

Incidentally, Colbert interviewed Corden during last night’s episode of The Colbert Report, which you can watch below. Also, revisit Michael Roffman’s recent feature highlighting prospective band leaders for Colbert’s Late Show.
