Though it left the station two years ago, Gary Clark Jr. is still riding down the tracks atop his major label debut, Blak and Blu. Today, he’s released a video for the album’s latest single, “When My Train Pulls In”.

Directed by Carmela Makela, it weaves together two different narratives involving young adults from the same hometown. The first involves a high school girl who dodges class in order to have sex with her boyfriend. The other depicts a young man, played by Clark himself Keith Stanfield of rap duo MOORS, who’s faced with the task of caring for his mother and brother. Watch below (via NOWNESS).

Of the former storyline, Makela told NOWNESS, “I was told to take out the sex scene but I fought for it. I drove to Warner Brothers and asked to speak to the marketing manager and explain from a woman’s perspective.”

“It’s that weird time before you are an adult, before you know — as a girl — that sex is supposed to feel good and you are supposed to know your worth, or that you have a choice.”

In related news, Clark was recently featured on Foo Fighters’ Sonic Highways cut “What Did I Do?/God As My Witness”, and is set to join the band for its Fourth of July blowout concert in Washington, DC. He’s also slated to support the Foo’s during its run of September and October tour dates in North America.
