Green Day has revealed that guitarist Jason White has been diagnosed with tonsil cancer. In a post on its website, the band said doctors are optimistic about a full and fast recovery, as the form of cancer is treatable.
“We have some news to report regarding our brother Jason White, and wanted you to hear it from us before word spread,” the band wrote. “Jason recently underwent a routine tonsillectomy, and his doctors discovered a treatable form of tonsil cancer. Thankfully they caught it early and he should make a full and speedy recovery.”
“Please join us in sending him love and positive healing vibes during this time.”
White first performed with Green Day in 1999 after being a member of Billie Joe Armstrong’s side project Pinhead Gunpowder. He went on to become the lead live guitarist for the band before he was christened a permanent member in 2012.
