Lana Del Rey premieres two new songs “Big Eyes” and “I Can Fly” — listen

on December 03, 2014, 9:43am

Later this month, director Tim Burton will return with Big Eyes, a biopic documenting the life of American artist Margaret Keane. As IMDB points out, the drama explores Keane’s “phenomenal success in the 1950s, and the subsequent legal difficulties she had with her husband, who claimed credit for her works in the 1960s.” It stars Amy Adams, Christoph Waltz, Jason Schwartzman, Krysten Ritter, and Danny Huston.

While Burton has once again recruited Danny Elfman to compose a score, Lana Del Rey has contributed two new songs to its corresponding soundtrack. Both “Big Eyes” and “I Can Fly” begin life as minimalist piano ballads before exploding into lush orchestral overtures, with Del Rey’s achy croon providing layer upon layer of heartache and melancholy. As Stereogum points out, “Big Eyes” appears midway through the film, while “I Can Fly” plays over the ending credits. Below, check out the film’s trailer.

Big Eyes officially hits theaters on Christmas Day (December 25th).
