Members of Darkside, The Antlers, ARMS, and more cover Joni Mitchell’s “River” — listen

on December 23, 2014, 12:22pm

In Brooklyn this past weekend, Darkside’s Dave Harrington gathered together a handful of friends and musicians for a “pan-denominational holiday party concert” of epic proportions. Among those who joined him onstage: The Antlers frontman Pete Silberman, ARMS’s Todd Goldstein and Tlacael Esparza, High Water and Nicolas Jaar affiliate Will Epstein, and many more.

Together, this makeshift supergroup tackled a handful of seasonal standards, including the 1971 Joni Mitchell classic “River”. A live recording of the cover surfaced earlier today and finds Harrington & co. taking the solemn original to even more somber depths. Silberman, especially, uses his pained croon to, as they say, tear the house down. Listen in below.
