Rapper Beanie Sigel was shot in the torso following an altercation in Pleasantville, New Jersey on Friday morning, according to the Press of Atlantic City. He was transported to an area hospital where he is currently undergoing surgery.
The 40-year-old Philadelphia native, who was born Dwight Grant, was released from federal prison in August following a two-year stint for tax evasion. He previously served time on weapons charges in 2002 and 2004, and was charged but acquitted of attempted murder in 2003.
His many legal troubles aside, Sigel was one of the best-selling rappers in the early 2000s, selling more than two million albums worldwide. He was an early protege of Jay Z and released several albums through Roc-A-Fella Records before the two had a falling out in 2005.
