As evidenced by his recent cover of “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas”, Sam Smith is a wizard at eliciting the most mournful of feelings from even an otherwise joyous, life-affirming ballad. That doesn’t mean, however, that the UK crooner is always concerned with leaving his audience feeling like morose, blubbering ninnies.
Case in point: the new video for “Like I Can”, a robust ditty from his debut LP In The Lonely Hour. Here, Smith and a gaggle of dudes hit New York City streets wearing pristine tuxes, busting out choreographed dance routines on bridges and serenading folks in alleyways before a round celebratory shots at the corner pub. It’s such an unbelievably happy and playful clip, in fact, that I momentarily thought I’d stumbled into yet another Love, Actually sequel. Prep those smile muscles as you watch below.
