Though hardcore rockers These Arms Are Snakes officially broke up in 2010, various recordings from the outfit’s archives are still being released. The latest track to surface is a cover of “Energy Drink and the Long Walk Home” by Jay Reatard’s early band Lost Sounds. What was once an explosion of near-endless power pop energy has been bent and twisted into some churning, hardcore blitz. Listen in below.
“Energy Drink and the Long Walk Home” appears on a new split 7-inch single with the band’s ex-labelmates, The Coathangers. It’s available now through Suicide Squeeze Records.
In an interview, bassist Brian Cook revealed that the cover may be These Arms Are Snakes’ final release, explaining, “There were four songs that were part of our last recording session, we did two on a split with with Russian Circles and another with Tropics.” However, Cook did mention the possibility of a new demo release, revealing, “In terms of further unreleased TAAS material, there is still a four song demo that we’ve discussed releasing. We mastered it for vinyl a few years back, but I’m not sure what happened to that project.”
