Courtney Love’s interests in theater extend beyond the forthcoming Kurt Cobain musical. This week, the Hole frontwoman will make her theatrical debut in Todd Almond’s new contemporary opera Kansas City Choir Boy.
The production is billed as a “love song for the computer age and a product of the 24-hour news cycle that feeds on the stories of the anonymous ‘missing.'” Love plays Athena, a teenage singer who leaves her boyfriend in Kansas City to pursue a career in New York City. However, soon after her arrival, she mysteriously disappears.
In anticipation, The New York Times has shared video of Love performing the opera’s original composition “All I Ever Wanted” with accompaniment from Almond on piano and Eric Allen on cello. Watch it here.
Kansas City Choir Boy will run January 8th – 17th at Here in New York City’s South Village.
