Parkay Quarts (aka Parquet Courts) premiere video for “Pretty Machines” — watch

on January 15, 2015, 2:50pm

If you’ve ever thought life was one unending cycle of monotony and misery (I know I have!), Parkay Quarts (the pseudo-side project of Parquet Courts) want to remind you things could always be worse.

In the clip for “Pretty Machines”, band member Austin Brown is stuck in a endless loop of life, his bland and painfully tedious routine (get up, drink coffee, go out) infinitely bleeding back into itself. Brown and co-director Johann Rashid make beautiful use of overlapping frames to drive home the sheer endlessness and toy around with the viewer’s perception of reality. As for me, I’m going to handle this sudden uptick of existential dread by shoveling vanilla birthday cake into my gullet. Watch it below.

“Pretty Machines” is off Parkay’s latest album, Content Nausea, out now via What’s Your Rupture?
