You may not recognize Jimmy Napes’ name or face, but chances are you’ve had more than a handful of his songs on perpetual loop inside your head. The UK singer-songwriter/producer, born James Napier, is credited with penning some of the biggest pop hits to grace the airwaves the last few years.
In addition to co-writing Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me” and Clean Bandit’s “Rather Be”, both of which have since earned Grammy nominations, Napes is the genius behind “Latch”, the global banger that not only helped launch Smith’s career, but propelled Disclosure from mere producer duo to mainstream EDM darlings. Now, after working behind-the-scenes for years, Napes is looking to strike out on his own with his first proper EP, The Making of Me, due out on March 9th via Method Records.
Our first taste of that release comes courtesy of “Give It Up”, which was produced by Disclosure’s own Howard Lawrence. A groovy, glimmering electropop number laced with infectious hooks, it’s the perfect introduction to Jimmy Napes, the solo artist. Listen in below.
