Since September, Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Art has hosted David Bowie Is, an interactive exhibition featuring over 300 items from Bowie’s personal archives. Additionally, the museum has staged a series of conversations, performances, and other live events inspired by the legendary musician. Yesterday, St. Vincent’s Annie Clark participated in a conversation discussing Bowie’s influence on her own career.

Below, watch a pair of clips from the conversation. The first finds Clark recounting her first-ever gig and the not-so-flattering outfit she chose to wear. In the second, she discusses Bowie’s showmanship and authenticity. Update: You can watch the full conversation below. She also discusses growing up in Texas, her love of podcasts, collaborating with Carrie Brownstein, and Beyoncé and feminism.

Bowie’s Facebook page also shared a written tribute from Clark. It reads, “David Bowie’s mutating aesthetic and persona are as much an instrument as his voice or guitar. Sound and vision: hero, icon, alien.“

Below, watch our exclusive video tour of the Chicago exhibit.
