Tame Impala offshoot Pond premieres new single “Zond” — listen

on January 12, 2015, 4:30pm

Pond, the Australian psych rock band featuring Tame Impala’s Jay Watson, has premiered a new single from its upcoming album Man It Feels Like Space Again. “Zond” explores some of the jaunty kaleidoscopic territory of its predecessors, “Elvis’ Flaming Star” and “Sitting Up On Our Crane”. However, its thumping beat, danceable pace, and hair-raising chorus make the track the most straightforward of the bunch.

While the music is direct and accessible, its accompanying music video is much more esoteric. Despite all the clip’s rainbow-hued visuals, low-budget visual tricks, and colorful costumes combining for a dizzying ride, filmmaker Johnny Mackay’s direction makes it a fun albeit goofy experience. Watch below.

Man It Feels Like Space Again is out January 27th via Modular Recordings. And don’t forget: a new Tame Impala also is also coming soon.
