Inspired by the the likes of Nirvana and Dinosaur Jr., Australian indie rockers Twerps make music that revels in utter slackerdom. With last fall’s “Back To You” single, the quartet transformed unrelenting self-deprecation into a dazzling power pop anthem. Today, they offer a similarly whimsical spin on personal indecision with “I Don’t Mind”.
As singer Marty Frawley turns the song title into a life mantra, the band expertly layers in dream pop guitars, chunky bass, and steady percussion, methodically upping the volume and tempo second by second. The result is a profound transformation, with all that icky uncertainty eventually blurring into a cascade of righteous noise. (If only real life’s headier subjects could be handled that easily.)
