Ty Segall premieres new song “Mr. Face” — listen

on January 07, 2015, 11:21am

On January 13th, Ty Segall will release Mr. Face, a new four-song EP that doubles as the “world’s first playable pair of 3D glasses.” Before you spin anything on or around your own face, though, the Bay Area garage rocker has made the EP’s title track available for streaming.

Here, Segall moves away from the glam rock of Manipulator (which we named the 24th best album of 2014) and back to the somber and psychedelic folk rock of 2013’s Sleeper. Over a perpetually groovy medley that alternates between strummy acoustic pop and jangly garage jam, Segall delivers a heady stream of consciousness masked in a feel-good, ’60s-inspired croon. The Mr. Face EP comes “pressed on translucent red and blue-colored vinyl, you just look through the records to activate the supercharged 3D artwork,” a press release explains. Pre-orders are ongoing through Famous Class Records.
