Jacco Gardner announces new album, Hypnophobia, shares “Find Yourself” — listen

on February 18, 2015, 3:55pm

CoSigned psych pop songwriter Jacco Gardner has covered a lot of ground in his short career. After releasing his 2013 debut, Cabinet of Curiosities, the Hollander embarked on a massive transcontinental tour and has appeared on festival bills from FYF Fest to South by Southwest. Now he’s returning with his sophomore effort, Hypnophobia, out May 5th via Polyvinyl Records.

The album’s first single, “Find Yourself”, is a meandering psychedelic odyssey. The track plays up Gardner’s understated guitar prowess, repeating a flanging riff over a plodding bass line and sparse drums. Moving at a leisurely pace, the song feels like something out the opening credits of a Western. The rumbling breakdowns and background choirs all evoke imagery of red plains and lonesome tumbleweeds. Gardner’s whimsical vocals come out as gentle entreatments as he sings “Find yourself now/ from everyone/ and when the time comes, you’re gonna find what you’ve become.” Listen in below.
