The Magnetic Fields’ Stephin Merritt announces rare solo tour

on February 17, 2015, 1:15pm

The Magnetic Fields mastermind Stephen Merritt has announced a rare solo tour for this summer.

Kicking off May 2nd in Philadelphia, the 14-date outing will see Merritt perform acoustic renditions of songs from The Magnetic Fields, Future Bibles Heroes, and his various projects, albeit with a unique twist: Each evening’s set will feature “exactly 26 songs, with each song title starting with a different letter of the alphabet and running in alphabetical order.”

For the outing, he’ll be accompanied by longtime collaborator and cellist Sam Davol.

Below, watch Merritt perform “100,000 Fireflies” from a concert in September 2014. The full tour schedule follows.
