Earlier this week, Jimmy Fallon masterfully recreated the iconic Fresh Prince of Bel-Air opening, neon garb, golden throne, and all. Last night, however, he welcomed the actual Fresh Prince to The Tonight Show for a ridiculously fun performance of hip-hop classic “It Takes Two” by Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock.
First, Fallon and Will Smith literally laid down the beat, taking turns beatboxing the track into an iPad app. A couple of looping tricks later, and with the additional help of The Roots, the two began rolling out the rhymes from centerstage, rockin’ with a sense of high-energy swagger. For Fallon, it was just the latest entertaining musical stunt of the week (see: his epic lip sync battle with Will Ferrell, his drunken Billy Joel cover at a local bar). For Smith … well, I’m a sucker for nostalgia and ’90s-era Smith. Here’s hoping they plan on gettin’ jiggy wit it soon. Watch their “It Takes Two” performance below.
