Banditos share new song “Still Sober (After All These Beers)” — listen

on March 31, 2015, 3:30pm

Banditos don’t operate under the guise of subtlety. The Nashville alt country outfit has built a reputation off of their gritty, whiskey soaked sound. It’s a vibe carried over from lead vocalist Corey Parsons and banjo player Steve Pierce’s days as buskers in Birmingham, Alabama. This gruff nature found balance when they added two classically trained musicians, drummer Randy Wade and guitarist Jeffrey Salter, as well as church choir vocalist Mary Beth Richardson and bassist Danny Vines.

Three years and over 600 shows later, the dirty rockers are finally ready to release their debut full-length. The self-titled LP was recorded with producer Andrija Tokic (Alabam Shakes, Hurray for the Riff Raff), and is due out May 12th through Bloodshot Records. As a taste of what the country sextet will deliver on the album, they’ve shared their latest rowdy single, “Still Sober (After All These Beers)”.

“I wrote the first verse and chorus for this song about the same time we moved into our band house in Nashville,” Pierce told Consequence of Sound. “It just sort of came to me one morning as a general complaint from each morning after having so much fun with all our friends, but I knew it wasn’t going to stop anytime soon … and really, why should it? Corey, as usual, could read my mind and helped me finish it up lyrically while keeping it humorous … We coined ‘Still Sober After All These Beers’ as our own little ‘I ain’t drunk, I’m just drinking’ anthem.'”

Opening with a clamor of guitar chords and tambourine shakes, the song quickly finds its stride as a rambunctious ode to boozing. Parsons quips wildly, begging women at the bar to take him with them and promising not to come home until “the morning light.” It’s quintessentially old-school, Nashville-style country rock with beer cans full of attitude.

Listen in below. Out May 12th, pre-orders for Banditos are going on here.
