The Jewish Community Center of San Francisco hosted a conversation between punk rock royalty for the latest installment of its Arts & Ideas series, as Carrie Brownstein interviewed Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon about her new memoir.
Over an incredibly funny 60 minutes, the pair discussed the process of writing books and music, why they don’t see themselves as musicians, and what it means to be asked about being a woman in a band. It takes them awhile to get rolling as they playfully make quips at each other, but once they do it’s an endearing and, yes, informative conversation. Check it out below.
This talk was just one of many Gordon has planned for her book tour promoting Girl in a Band. She’ll also sit down with Aimee Mann, Mountain Goats’ Jon Wurster, and Sub Pop co-founder Bruce Pavitt, among others. Perhaps Gordon will be able to return the favor when Brownstein releases her own memoir, due out this October.
