Mike Porcaro, the longtime bassist of contemporary rock band Toto, has died at the age of 59. Porcaro had been battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) for the last several years.
A native of South Windsor, Connecticut, Porcaro joined Toto shortly following the release of their Grammy Award-winning album Toto IV in 1982. He remained with the band up until his diagnosis in 2007, making him the band’s longest serving bassist.
As a member of Toto, he performed on albums including 1984’s Isolation (1984), 1986’s Fahrenheit (1986), and 2002’sThrough the Looking Glass.
Following his departure, Toto embarked on a tour to raise money for Poracro’s medical expenses.
