on April 16, 2015, 10:16am

The Cannes Film Festival has announced the lineup for its 68th edition, set to take place May 13th – 24th in Cannes, France.

Festival director Thierry Fremaux and president Pierre Lescure unveiled the star-studded bill this morning in Paris. Among the major highlights are new films by Gus Van Sant (Sea of Trees), Woody Allen (Irrational Man), Todd Haynes (Carol), Denis Villeneuve (Sicario), Nanni Moretti (Mia madre), and Paolo Sorrentino (The Early Years).

Director Asif Kapadia’s documentary on late singer Amy Winehouse aptly titled, Amy, will premiere ahead of its stateside release. in addition to George Miller’s highly-anticipated sequel Mad Max: Fury Road and Pixar’s latest computer-animated spectacle, Inside Out.

French actress-director Emmanuelle Bercot will screen her film, Standing Tall (La Tete haute), opening night. As The Hollywood Repoter points out, Bercot is the first female director to have their film open the festival since 1987, when Diane Kurys premiered A Man in Love in the very same slot.

This year, the festival’s jury will be chaired by Joel and Ethan Coen, while Isabella Rossellini will serve as the president of the Un Certain Regard jury. Additional films will be announced shortly, but Fremaux contended that this is 90 percent of the lineup, culled together from a whopping 1,854 screenings.

“The selection process is a journey that takes us around the world,” Fremaux said. “And we often come back with surprises that we could have never pictured showing.”
