Common joins DC’s Suicide Squad movie

on April 22, 2015, 6:45pm

The already large cast of Suicide Squad continues to expand, as Common has reportedly closed a deal to appear in the film.

It’s currently unknown what role the rapper-turned-actor will play in David Ayer’s team-up of DC Comic villains. However, it’s worth noting that he was courted to play the John Stewart version of Green Lantern in an aborted George Miller take on DC’s big super team, Justice League: Mortal. With Stewart rumored to wear the ring in the upcoming two-part Justice League and 2020’s planned Green Lantern solo film, speculation on Common’s Suicide Squad role will no doubt send fans into a frenzy.

Common joins Will Smith (Deadshot), Jared Leto (The Joker), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flagg), Cara Delevingne (Enchantress), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Killer Croc), Karen Fukuhara (rumored as Plastique), Raymond Olubawale (rumored as King Shark), Jay Hernandez (rumored as El Diablo), and Scott Eastwood (rumored as Steve Trevor). There’s also a chance Jesse Eisenberg will reprise his Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice roll as Lex Luthor in the film as a cameo.

Based on the DC comic book of the same name, Suicide Squad is about a team of supervillains who are recruited by the government to complete dangerous assignments in exchange for clemency. It’s due August 5th, 2016.
