The TIDAL launch may have brought Jay Z, Kanye West, Jack White, and more to New York City, but another musical summit of sorts took place this week in Los Angeles … all in the name of renowned director, actor, and musician David Lynch.
My Morning Jacket’s Jim James, The Flaming Lips, Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Karen O, Duran Duran, Sky Ferreira, and Lykke Li, among many others, performed at a Lynch tribute concert Wednesday night at the downtown Ace Hotel. The event, which was in support of the 10th anniversary of Lynch’s nonprofit foundation, featured covers of classics from Lynch’s own expansive catalog, as well as songs from his various TV/film soundtracks.
Among the highlights: Ferreira sang “Blue Velvet”; James took on “I’ll See You In The Trees”; Duran Duran did “Hungry Like A Wolf”; and Lykke Li covered “Wicked Games”. Check out various pictures and fan-caught footage below.
