While most of us spent our teenage years popping zits and generally just being very awkward, Sacramento sisters Lucy and Gwen Giles put their youthful energy to good use. Together, they formed the band Dog Party in 2007, and quickly got down to business doling out brash and roaring rock à la The Ramones and The Buzzcocks. After a string of releases, the siblings broke through with their third album, Lost Control, which dropped in 2013 when the siblings were just 14 and 17.

“Their Asian Man Records debut, Lost Control, sees Dog Party start to adopt a maturity that balances excitement for the adult world with fear of it, all funneled into spritzy pop-punk that echoes the Soviettes, the Queers, and the Epoxies,” reads an album review by Consequence of Sound’s own Associate Editor Sasha Geffen.

Now, Dog Party is back with a new LP aptly titled Vol. 4, and the Giles sisters’ teeth feel sharper than ever. A press release notes that the LP’s recording “on tape kept the energy of the songs high, while Gwen and Lucy pushed for louder drums and more fuzzed out, garage leaning guitar sounds this go around,” adding that “the confidence level of the band comes through loud and clear.” The 13-track effort was recorded at The Dock in Sacramento with Chris Woodhouse, known for his work with similarly scorchin’ acts Thee Oh Sees, Ty Segall, and White Fence.

As a preview of this more assertive sound, the duo’s let loose “Peanut Butter Dream”, a two-minute beast that boasts a one-two punch of feverish riffs and snarling vocals. Considering they’ve come so far and are still under 20, it’s safe to say Gwen and Lucy have one hell of a future ahead of ’em. Coachella in 2020, perhaps? Listen in below.
