Oscar-winning actor Eddie Redmayne may soon step into the world of wizardry. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Redmayne is Warner Bros.’s choice to star in the forthcoming Harry Potter prequel Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
The film, which is being written by Harry Potter author JK Rowling, takes place 70 years before the events portrayed in the Harry Potter series. Redmayne would play Newton Artemis Fido Scamander, an author who has been commissioned to create a reference guide to magical beasts.
Redmayne, who took home Best Actor at the 2015 Academy Awards for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything, wants to read the final script before committing to the project. In the meantime, he’s currently shooting a film called The Danish Girl in which he plays transgender artist Lili Elbe.
