Fresh off his Best Original Song Oscar for “Glory”, John Legend is returning to the big screen once more. The singer-songwriter is producing a new musical romantic drama set to star the Casanova of R&B himself, Miguel.
According to a synopsis, the as-yet-untitled project centers on Miguel’s character, “a former one hit wonder who regains his love for music when he is hired to coach an aspiring singer for her audition on a singing competition show.” Director Nabil Elderkin (FKA Twig’s “Two Weeks”, Legend’s own “All of Me”) will make the leap from music videos to features for the film, with the script coming from Taylor Cohen. Production is set to begin this September in Philadelphia.
For Miguel, the forthcoming film marks his acting debut. His last album was 2013’s Kaleidoscope Dream, which spawned the Grammy-winning single “Adorn”. Though he’s yet to return with a proper follow-up, the singer has released one-off singles like “Simplethings” and collaborated with Lorde and Jessie Ware. Late last year, he released a surprise EP featuring three pre-Kaleidoscope songs.
