Shana Cleveland & The Sandcastles share new single “Itching Around” — listen

on April 16, 2015, 3:15pm

Shana Cleveland & The Sandcastles is the side project of La Luz’s frontwoman in which she trades her mainstay band’s surf-noir rock for a pastoral folk sound. We first heard the other side of Cleveland on “Golden Days”, the lead single from the band’s debut LP, Oh Man, Cover the Ground, out May 26th through Suicide Squeeze Records. Now, the Seattle outfit has returned with another listen in the form of “Itching Around”.

Where the previous track was a mellow tune with a slight bounce in its haunt, this new track kicks up dust with a shuffling gait. It carries itself with all the honesty you could hope to find in a Pacific Northwest folk number, highlighted by Cleveland’s own confident picking and fret work. Strings wax and wane in the background as she almost tosses aside restless lyrics like, “It’s part of the show/ Itching around/ On the couch, on the stairs, on the ground.” Take a listen below.

Oh Man, Cover the Ground Tracklist:
01. Butter & Eggs
02. Holy Rollers
03. Oh Man, Cover The Ground
04. Itching Around
05. Potato Chips
06. Golden Days
07. (death riff)
09. Rounding The Block
10. City To City
11. Sucking Stones
12. Quiet As Skin
13. Change In The Ocean
