Early last month, a previously unheard St. Vincent song called “Teenage Talk” appeared on an episode of HBO’s Girls. At the time, the show’s music supervisor, Manish Raval, reported that “Lena [Dunham] flipped for” the track, but we were only left with a not-quite-complete rip of the song to tease us. Now, Annie Clark has finally released the complete, official recording.
This version of “Teenage Talk” runs considerably longer, allowing it to revel in the moody synth drones with a bit more space. Take a listen to the track — reportedly a leftover from her Grammy-winning self-titled fourth studio album — below via Spotify. That’s the single art above, featuring a teenaged Annie Clark in 1997.
On Monday evening, St. Vincent was on Jimmy Fallon to perform the track with some teenage girls. Watch the performance here.
