Stream: Heather Maloney’s new album Making Me Break

on April 21, 2015, 2:00pm

Northampton, Massachusetts singer-songwriter Heather Maloney will release her latest album, Making Me Break, on April 28th via Signature Sound Records. In anticipation, it’s streaming in full below.

The 12-track effort follows up on Maloney’s 2013’s self-titled LP and is the third full-length in her catalog. Though she grew up on folk music, Maloney opted to study operatic and jazz vocals later in life. Before writing and recording her own music, however, she spent three years working at a meditation retreat where she would take vows of silence for seven to 10 days at a time. It was at a designated cottage on the property that she says she sang, cried, and began to write. Now she’s teaming up with producer Bill Reynolds (Band Of Horses, Calexico), a kindred spirit in her desire to meld “down to earth” folk with the “emotional ethers” of indie rock.

“Within 10 minutes of my first conversation with Bill, we were talking about how to make a record like a Rumi poem… Ecstatic and lush but utterly human,” Maloney says. “We went into the studio with the common vision of combining the big production value of indie rock with the vulnerability of a folk song.”

Pre-orders are ongoing.

Maloney will be touring in support of Making Me Break throughout the summer. Find her full itinerary beneath the album tracklist.
