Stream: METZ’s new album METZ II

on April 27, 2015, 9:40am

Toronto punks METZ will release their sophomore album, METZ II, on May 5th via Sub Pop Records. In anticipation, it’s streaming in full at NPR.com.

The 10-track effort follows the group’s 2012 self-titled debut and subsequent 20 months of extensive touring. In addition to their traditional guitar/vocals, bass, and drums lineup, the band incorporated new instruments like baritone guitar, piano, synths, and tape loops to fill out their sound.

Frontman Edkins said the album was inspired by a year experiencing loss and “contemplating our relationships with death and the planet.” He added, “I consider myself a pretty massive pessimist, but a pessimist who knows how lucky he is. A lot of things in everyday life drive me crazy: how we relate to each other; how politics, media, technology, money and medication influence our lives. This band, in a lot of ways, is an outlet.”

Pre-orders are ongoing. Below, listen to lead single “Spit You Out”.
