The Muscadettes’ debut single “I’m In Love” cut a sweet wave of ’60s beach romance, but on their second track, the Montreal foursome flash more teeth. Led by twin sisters Chantal and Kathleen Ambridge, the band lasers in on its grooves with the sort of precision that probably only comes from musicians who used to share a zygote. Backed up by Joe Gagné and Thomas Augustin, the Ambridge sisters deal in tight, choppy chords, sour key riffs, and harmonized barks on their new single “Pearl and Oyster”.
Like “I’m In Love”, “Pearl and Oyster” is taken from The Muscadettes’ forthcoming debut EP, Side A, the first of two EPs due out from the band this year. “‘Pearl and Oyster’ is one of the first songs we wrote together,” says Kathleen of the tune. “The lyrics and music came at the same time. ‘Pearl’ was an affectionate nickname for someone. It’s just about the physical chemistry between two people and feeding off one another’s energy.”
