Jack White has opened the vault and shared rarely seen archival footage from The White Stripes’ early days. On May 28th, 2000, Meg and Jack made their TV debut on Backstage Pass, a program on Detroit public access television. There, they previewed their sophomore album De Stijl (which would be released the following month) by performing “Apple Blossom” and “Death Letter”.
In related news, an unreleased recording of The White Stripes’ cover of Loretta Lynn’s “Rated X” will be unearthed in the latest package from Third Man Records’ subscription series The Vault. Originally recorded in 2000, but locked away in the vault ever since, the 7-inch is backed by a live recording of Lynn’s “Whispering Sea” recorded live at the Gorge Amphitheater in George, Washington on August 6th, 2005. Listen to a sample of “Rated X” below.
